Doju Kun and other guidance about how to train

Meaningful martial arts training requires thoughtful practice, consistent discipline and intelligent study. Of particular importance is understanding how martial arts practice is integrated into daily living. Karate is not just for the Dojo. The masters who developed martial arts systems were also great thinkers. They shared their experience of how martial arts can contribute to daily living. This guidance ranges widely from reflecting on your own efforts at the practice of martial arts, to understanding how to live in the wider world.

One of the central codes of conduct that we commit ourselves to is the Dojo Kun. In Shotokan Karate this is repeated at the beginning and the end of a class. Easy to repeat, but difficult to understand its potential impact on you as a martial artist.

As for Kobujutsu, we should look carefully at the great swordsman, Myamoto Musashi and his Dokkodo. It can be read here
